London Runway Report: Basso & Brooke
(LONDON) If you don't know their name, get ready for some high-octane glamorama in the shape of Brazilian and Brit designers Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke (aka the new wonderkids in town)! With the last show of the day running approximately two hours late, it was worth the wait to see the extravagant, exciting and somewhat sinister show from the duo who won last year's Fashion Fringe-the new talent competition judged by fashion industry types such as Hamish Bowles, Roland Mouret and organized by Sunday Times critic Colin MacDowell.
With a huge whoosh of Elnett hairspray, the show kicked off with flamboyant 50s prom dresses covered in graffitti-style and computer trickery prints followed by floor length jester-style stage dresses and flounced hem romper suits that were all hilariously off the wall. The collection was called "Vanity Affair" and according to the boys' show notes, they're aiming for "disenchanted housewives for whom bridge parties and coffee mornings have been superseded by pills and pitchers of cocktails before noon." Welcome to the wonderful world of Basso & Brooke!
