(NEW YORK) It's a jungle out there, especially on the newsstand. But despite recent reports of industry-wide declines in ising pages, one fashion book is posting significant gains--Elle. In fact, 2008 has been the American edition's most successful one in its 24-year history, with a total of 2,578 ad pages sold. This marks a 5.4% increase over 2007, accompanied by a 10 percent gain in ad revenue. By comparison, Vogue, the category's longtime leader, has moved 2,893 ad pages, down 9.6% over a record-breaking 2007. Given that 2009 is slated to be one of the most challenging years for ad dollars on record, the competition between the two books is bound to intensify.
