Tarina Tarantino partners with Mattel to create a Barbie
Monday, November 12, 2007

(NEW YORK) Barbie's hair is turning bright pink this spring with the launch of the Tarina Tarantino Barbie in May--after the accessories designer incorporated the doll into her fun jewelry designs, Mattel decided to return the favor. Tarantino had a hand in creating every aspect of the Barbie, which will come wearing a pink dress embellished in crystals. She picked a round face for the doll's sculpt, as well as all of the accoutrements. "They open these drawers of tiny shoes to choose from; it's crazy," Tarantino told The Daily. "But I drove them nuts recreating miniature versions of my hair pieces and jewelry for the dolls."

Thursday night Tarantino celebrated the launch of her new Tokyo Hardcore collection in her glistening SoHo store with her husband and daughters. Inspired by a recent trip to Japan, Tarantino returned and designed an entire collection around the young Japanese women, whose sense of youthful style she loves. "It was a life-changing experience," she said. "Sparkles and shine just make people really happy."

Tarantino is following in the fuchsia footsteps of another pink haired lady, stylist extraordinaire Patricia Field, who is launching the new Barbie by Patricia Field Holiday 2007 Collection on Tuesday night.
