(NEW YORK) Nancy Reagan and her carefully cultivated style will be the subject of a new exhibition, "Nancy Reagan-a First Lady's Style," that will debut this fall at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Diane von Furstenberg will serve as master of ceremonies at a private gala reception on November 8 in Simi Valley, California, alongside an honorary committee comprised of James Galanos, Carolina Herrera, and Oscar de la Renta. "I am truly honored to recognize a woman whose name will always be synonymous with timeless style and elegance," said the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, whose annual black-tie awards gala was attended twice by the former First Lady. "Nancy Reagan has been a wonderful ambassador for American fashion." The CFDA, in recognition of her contribution to fashion, awarded her its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. The chronicle of the 86-year old philanthropist's wardrobe will showcase over 75 dresses, suits, and gowns, and at the same time will not only honor her, but the men and women who helped define her style as well. The designs on display will include pieces by Geoffrey Beene, Bill Blass, Valentino Garavani, James Galanos, Carolina Herrera, Adolfo Sardiña, Yves Saint Laurent, and Oscar de la Renta. The exhibition will open to the public the week following the reception.
