Statuesque Supermodel

Marc Quinn creates new Kate Moss Sphinx sculpture

(LONDON) Marc Quinn is at it again. The British artist, whose Sphinx sculptures capturing Kate Moss in a series of yoga poses toured the world in 2006, has designed a new version of the supermodel for display in the UK. Standing at nearly 10-feet tall, the new Sphinx is crafted from white-painted bronze and will premiere at the Beyond Limits sale of modern and contemporary sculpture at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Other artists whose work will be featured include Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, and Israeli photographer Michal Rovner's video installation. "She is a contemporary version of the Sphinx," Quinn said last year. "She's a creature who is admired and observed obsessively, but about whom we have little real knowledge." The first time around, the supermodel was an active participant in the creation process, even coming to Quinn's studio in London to be measured. And just like last time, while the head and body of the cast are that of the famous face's, Quinn worked with another model to sculpt the actual pose.
