A Mere Bag-atelle
The designer today announced plans to design limited edition travel collections for LeSportsac, focusing on travel bags, luggage, and baby accessories. The first Stella McCartney for LeSportsac collection is set to launch in Spring 2008. "LeSportsac has a strong history in making iconic non-leather goods and this is a unique opportunity for Stella McCartney to address a new category of accessories for the busy woman of today," said Marco Bizzarri, CEO and president of Stella McCartney, in a statement.
While monetary terms of the agreement were not disclosed, LeSportsac did divulge that the contract with McCartney is for 18 months, and that it is renewable.
The lightweight and multi-purpose collections will incorporate innovative elements of design and will focus on travel accessories with an emphasis on baby. Initially 30 to 40 styles will debut, with a bag averaging $200 to $250. McCartney's designs for LeSportsac collection will carry the same ethics as the designer's current luxury non-leather accessories collection that was launched in Fall 2006. The Stella McCartney for LeSportsac collection will be available in high-end department stores and specialty stores including Stella McCartney boutiques in London, New York, and Los Angeles, and LeSportsac stores nationwide in Spring 2008. The collection will also available online.
