Glamour taps six to design for Shopbop

(NEW YORK) While they're generally layered underneath turtlenecks and peacoats this time of year, Glamour is focusing the spotlight on the T-shirt this fashion week, partnering with Shopbop.com and six young female-helmed design houses to debut "Fashion Gives Back," a series of limited edition Splendid T-shirts. In its March spring fashion issue, Jenni Kayne, Rachel Roy, Rodarte, Sari Gueron, Thread Social, and Vena Cava were all asked by the magazine to create one-of-a-kind tees with images that best reflect their individual creativity and vision. Image were then screened onto a $68 white cotton short-sleeve T-shirt and signed by the designer, much like a work of art.

A limited run of 1,500 shirts (250 per design) have been produced for sale on Shopbop.com, with 30 percent of the proceeds benefiting each designer's respective charity. Kayne's tee, for example, features a coral-colored sketch of a woman in a field of poppies wearing her Grecian one-shouldered gown and benefits the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center; Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy's smattering of black & white light bulbs featuring one illuminated in yellow will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; Roy's tee, distressed in metallic gold, will benefit Children's Hope India; and Gueron's watercolor painting of an owl spreading its wings will go toward Free Arts NYC.
