Marchesa Turns Two
Birthday bash at BG draws fashion's finest
Thursday, October 26, 2006
(NEW YORK) While expected guests Mischa Barton and Hugh Jackman were no shows, that did little to stop the festivities at Wednesday night's dinner at Bergdorf Goodman's BG restaurant celebrating the second anniversary of Marchesa. Hosted by Sienna Miller, Rachel Zoe, and Lauren Davis, the lovely ladies drew an equally fetching crowd, including Alexis Bryan, Eleanor Ylvisaker, Damon Dash and Rachel Roy, Anna Wintour, Fabiola Beracasa, Zani Gugelmann, Helena Christensen, Jamie Dornan, Mimi So, Tinsley Mortimer, Nina Garcia, Padma Lakshmi, and Sophie Dahl. "Rachel asked me to wear flats tonight," Davis joked in reference to her statuesque height. While he had no footwear issues, a post-Ellen Barkin Ron Perelman, clad in a Thom Browne jacket, made for quite the stylish gent as he arrived with his step-daughter, Samantha. "I'm very tuned into fashion, you know?" he quipped. "It's like tissue," Olivia Chantecaille compared of her delicate dress. "If someone sneezes, it might blow off."
Upstairs, once past the parade of photographers camped out on the red carpet on Fifth Avenue, magician Alex Ward treated the seen-it-all, done-it-all crowd to his street-chic magic following dinner. "I wanted to make up for the fact that the show was so problematic, so I thought it would be a good idea to celebrate their anniversary in an elegant way," deadpanned Harvey Weinstein. "I'm not one to ever celebrate my birthday, but this is the birthday of Marchesa," Georgina Chapman noted demurely as she cozied up to Miller, who paired her short cocktail dress with $400,000 Cartier platinum, diamond, and emerald cabochon drop earrings. "It's a bit like playing dress up, like Cinderella," the actress observed. "The jewels have to go back, but maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll get to keep the dress."
