The Daily Itinerary
Hilary Swank, the recently named new face of Guerlain, will make a special visit to Saks Fifth Avenue on September 13 to celebrate the launch of Insolence, the company's new fragrance whose ad campaign features the two-time Academy Award-winning actress. Pamela Baxter, CEO and president of LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics, will join Swank at Saks for the occasion, where The Black Dahlia star will sign bottles of the perfume as well autographs. Later that evening, Swank will continue her hosting duties by joining a bold-faced crop of New Yorkers in a private, Guerlain-sponsored and Cinema Society-hosted screening of her latest flick, which also stars Mia Kirshner, Scarlett Johansson, and Josh Hartnett. The intimate affair will be followed by an even more intimate dinner and party.
A month before she officially becomes president of the CFDA, Diane von Furstenberg will make her first official appearance alongside current president Stan Herman and executive director Steven Kolb. The trio is hosting a breakfast for regional press in town for Fashion Week the morning of September 14 at the Gramercy Park Hotel. A reception will take place in the Jade Bar and remarks will be delivered in the adjacent Rose Bar. But don't worry. The CFDA will provide transportation to the 9 a.m. Alice Ritter show that morning and for those fashion reporters itching to attend the Kate Spade/Jack Spade breakfast, it's a mere five-block stroll away.
David Yurman may not be staging his own jewelry runway show, but he's insistent on leaving an impression nevertheless. His company will dress the male models at the Buckler runway show on September 11 at Show nightclub. Look for those Yurman dog tags, necklaces, chain bracelets, rings-all from existing collections-to be subtly woven into Andrew Buckler's designs.Vivienne Westwood will be making a personal appearance at Macy's Herald Square on September 12 to promote her new line of shoes designed in collaboration with Nine West. Vogue and Macy's have sent out invitations to attend what is being billed as a primarily consumer-driven event, but look for a healthy sprinkling of the industry to be on hand for the Q&A session that will be led by Mary Alice Stephenson. Drag queen Brandywine has already RSVPed.
Kristen Bell has been confirmed to attend Yigal Azrouel's Spring 2007 show on September 8. The young actress, best known for her role as Veronica Mars, is now gracing the silver screen in numerous projects. She most recently finished Roman and Fanboys, and is currently filming Flatland due out in 2007.
DMB Associates has announced that its luxury retail, residential, and office development, One Scottsdale, will be the first real estate development property in history to sponsor Olympus Fashion Week in New York this September. As part of the sponsorship, DMB will unveil details about the One Scottsdale mixed-use luxury development during Fashion Week at the Bryant Park Tents. Set to open in the fall of 2009, One Scottsdale will feature 1.8 million square feet of world-class retail, restaurants and Class A office space, as well as 1,100 mixed-use residential units, including urban estates and 400 resort and boutique hotel rooms. Lauren Hutton and Angie Harmon will be hosting its national launch party at the Four Seasons Restaurant on September 13, which will feature a special performance by Grammy Award-winning recording artist India.Arie.Thom Browne is bringing his clothes to the big screen. The designer has collaborated with Anthony Goicolea to create a short film called The Septemberists. Guests invited to this September 9 presentation at Exit Art will be privy to one of three screenings, all of which will showcase his Spring 2007 designs.
For the first time ever, Elle Décor and interior designer Vicente Wolf have collaborated to "dress and accessorize" the public spaces of the Bryant Park Tents. Taking inspiration from surrealist Salvador Dali, a dramatic showcase has been created for the café and lobby seating areas, the fountain and the exclusive backstage IMG Lounge. Flanking the main entrance will be two massive shoe sculptures covered entirely in aquamarine ceramic tiles created by mosaic tile manufacturer Sicis. The fountain will feature surreal mannequin limbs poking out of sheer white fabric, while suspended above the fountain will be a dozen Niermann Weeks chandeliers hanging at various heights. An array of fashion accessories and mannequins will be perched throughout the space.
Craving this season's sold-out Chloé? Need to satisfy your Fendi fix? Now American fashion editors will be able to revel in the joys of instant fashion gratification thanks to net-a-porter.com. The chic one-stop shopping destination last week began utilizing DHL to provide same day delivery. Thanks to a distribution center the company has set up in Long Island City, orders placed in the U.S. will be shipped from the U.S., thus cutting out tariffs and excess taxes. "It's all very U.S. customer-centric, which is 30 percent of our business," said company founder and chairman Natalie Massenet. "You still have to pay for shipping, but it's cheaper than a taxi uptown."
Robert Clergerie, who opened his first New York store three months ago at 19 East 62nd Street, is bringing his timeless appeal to the runways of Olympus Fashion Week. Clergerie will be accessorizing Vena Cava designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai's Spring 2007 Collection show. Styled as a visual journey into Japan's influence on European Belle Époque art and architecture, the show celebrates "Eastern motifs filtered through a European lens." The models will wear Clergeri's classic wedges, menswear-inspired flats, and ethnic sandals with such names as Spring, Maureen, and Alceste, all hinting memories of foreign films.
As a platinum sponsor of Race for the Cure, benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Ann Taylor will once again host its Ann Taylor Survivor Café on September 10. The place of rest will serve as a destination for the more than 25,000 runners and walkers-and breast cancer survivors-to gather to relax and meet one another. Ann Taylor corporate associates have annually participated in over 90 nationwide Komen Races for the Cure. Last year approximately 3,000 Ann Taylor team members participated nationwide.
Bourjois is bidding adieu to unsightly buildup this Fashion Week by staging a mock protest outside the Bryant Park Tents on September 10 and 12 to introduce its new $13 mascara, "Yes to Volume! No to Clumps!" And that's exactly what the group of five hawkers will chant, while dressed in patent leather flats, leggings, and little black-and-pink scarves. Trés chic, no? The faux demonstrators will carry signs bearing the name of the product will handing out pamphlets that will, in fact, be the mascaras themselves. "We're French," offered a company spokeswoman in jest. "And protesting is what we do best." Those seeking a calmer environment in which to savor the company's beauty products will have to watch the models at Alice Roi's show this Saturday, all of whom will be wearing Bourjois makeup.
Curators at the Museum of the City of New York have selected a dress from Natalia Allen for their exhibition Black Style Now, which opens on September 9. If Allen's name sounds familiar, that's because she tied for Designer of the Year at the 2004 Parsons School of Design benefit and senior fashion show. The $3,260 dress is made from Sea Cell jersey fabric and nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E are released by natural body moisture when the fiber is worn. Also on display are garments worn by Beyoncé, Sean "Diddy" Combs, LL Cool J, and Tina Turner, as well as couture created by black designers like Stephen Burrows, Tracy Reese, Jeffrey Banks, CD Greene, and Montgomery.
