Cheesy is the New Cool
Such was the scene at New York's newest party, an invite-only Tuesday night at the Ninth Avenue bôite, where carbs came baked, melted, or simply poured into shot glasses. The party is hosted by the MisShapes, Sophia Lamar, and their revolving cast of celebrity guest DJs, and the pizza came thin, like most guests' jeans-or, in Zaldy's case, like his muses.
"Karen Elson is still tiny!" he revealed. "She was in the studio the other day, and she's 7 months pregnant and stunning. So different from Gwen [Stefani, his muse for their L.A.M.B. line], who's sooo pregnant and beautiful, but really showing! Karen is just amazing...she was over because I'm doing costumes for the Citizen's Band right now. Their show is on Saturday, which is soon, but for Sarah Sophie Flicker and Karen, of course I'll do anything."
Vogue recently sent flowers to Zaldy after his latest collection. Meanwhile at the party, guests were sending anything and everything to Visionaire's Scott Meriam, who celebrated his birthday in a corner. "My ultimate birthday present is the I-Homme," he gushed, but wouldn't reveal who gave him the iPod case designed by Hedi Slimane. Was it his boss and mentor Cecelia Dean? "I can't tell you that!" he laughed, but instead showed The Daily a huge pink pillow, shaped like Peep candy. "I got this present too. It's also Dior!" It wasn't, but guests were more engrossed in their chocolate cake than their labels. Scott passed out a tray of fudge slices, just as Max Minghella and Mark Ronson slid through the door.
"People think it's weird we're teaming up with Marc," said DJ Greg Krelenstein, who's also NYLON's new special projects editor, and Burberry's newest frequent client. "But we really wanted to show that we could do something more adult, almost like a salon of exciting, engaging people. We love it when people dance, we love to throw big parties, but we also want to show that we can be real hosts."As if on cue, fellow MisShape Geordon Nicol sailed by, taking drink orders. "Are you okay? Do you need anything?" he called over the latest Killers track.
"Hey," grinned Paper's Jake Brown. "Doesn't Geordon remind you of someone? He's like totally Amy Sacco. He's going to be Manhattan's next great party thrower, right?"
