Runway Reviews: Lanvin Resort 2011
(NEW YORK) “Sometimes if you go too clean, you lose a dream,” smiled Alber Elbaz at Lanvin’s resort presentation in New York. “And women would be nothing without that lasting dream, and far-fetched fantasy.” For Elbaz, that intricate vision focused on the idea of transformation, which was spelled out with plenty of double agent dresses, reversible rubberized coats, flowing scarf dresses, and show-stopping swimsuit-centered daytime outfits. They’ve all combined for what the brand’s lovable creative director described as an essential item in a “fashion luxury supermarket” of sorts, where a core Lanvin buyer would invest in plenty of the brand's long-term stock. There were, of course, plenty of astounding shimmering party dresses, rich necklaces, and oversized handbags to keep the consumer deliriously satisfied. As Elbaz pulled skirts and adjusted shifts during the presentation, top editors and buyers were both in awe and at his mercy. If Elbaz could captivate even the most cynical audience, he’ll have little trouble continuing his pursuit of the never-ending dream.
