(NEW YORK) Naeem Khan
Khan's particular brand of glamour shows so signs of slowing down, even in the more casual resort season. Chez lui, the opulence is always out in full force. The most standout piece amongst a smattering of gowns? Navy-and-white striped high-waisted trousers. They were fully sequined, of course, and they will look just as great with the matching top as they will with a tucked-in white mensweary oxford. A short sheath in nude tulle was decorated with sequined leaves that wrap seductively around the body. A sixties-style evening gown with a nude silk top and full coral skirt is sure to make waves on the benefit circuit next winter (or before). But two floral lame frocks, one worn by Mary Alice Stephenson at Monday's CFDA Awards, are sure to please those headed for warmer, less formal climates. Although in Khan's world, there's always an opportunity to sparkle.
Diane von Furstenberg
A femmed-up DvF lady will have plenty more of the same slouchy silhouettes and graphic prints that she so favors. From black and khaki stripes and florals to forties-era bikinis, the structure is loose and the aesthetic is less whimsical, more mature. Surefire sellers? Floaty chiffon shirtdresses and a few easy basics like a great flyaway trench.
Hervé Léger by Max Azria
How many times can you reinvent the bandage dress? Let us count the ways. Fringe, geometric prints and iridescent detailing injected plenty of joyful femininity. Corals, peaches and purples provided a new palette for the brand's obsessive fans, and the occasional pleated skirt (a mini, still, of course) was as ultra flattering as we've come to expect.
Max and Lubov Azria delivered clean silhouettes in bold, graphic prints in striking black, white, gray and blue hues. Structured frocks, tunics and coverups were ideal for warmer climates, but still maintained a distinct urban feel.
Fit for a safari voyage, the Max Azria Resort 2011 collection teemed with batik-print and loose, billowing tunics, while saturated greens and yellows popped against the more muted hues. Cotton shorts and tanks beg to be worn on a Jeep ride through the desert.
