Alexander McQueen - Resort 2009
(MILAN) Always one to pace himself, Alexander McQueen used his spring men’s wear show slot to present his women’s resort collection in Milan. McQueen described the 14 women’s looks as sexy and form-fitting, but not vulgar. “There’s an emphasis on the exposed leg,” he said of the collection, which is responsible for most of his commercial prowess. The shapes were undeniably sexy and almost second-skin, some with color-blocking a la Hervé Léger. But McQueen injected his primarily muted collection with some intermittent splashes of bright neon. Hummingbirds and koi accented several spectacular chiffon dresses. Equally striking? An eye-popping cocktail number that was eerily reminiscent of reptile skin.
