Burberry - Resort 2009
(NEW YORK) Under the direction of Christopher Bailey, Burberry stays true to the brand’s heritage in a luxuriously modern way. “Fluid and relaxed shapes are shown in dusty vintage hues interspersed with flashes of vibrant colour and expressed with rich detail and texture,” said Bailey of the collection. Oversized cashmere sweaters were shown over chic, belted sheaths used to create a cinched sleek silhouette. Pleats played an integral role in pegged trousers and skirts. Knits were paired with high-waisted pencil skirts in rich fabrications like lace and silk jacquard. Leather blazers and printed coats kept outerwear strong. Varying proportions shifted looks from wide and relaxed to sophisticated and tailored. Bailey used a classic neutral palette of taupe, mushroom, mustard, slate blue, military ochre, stone white and ink with gilded tones of pewter, citrine and antique gold. Hand embroidery, sequins, bow details, and unique manipulations of material gave the sharp collection a feminine feel.
