(NEW YORK) Speaking of skirts worn sans tops, the bared midriff seems to be making quite the comeback. Proenza Schouler chose it to open their resort show, in the context of a lamé bustier top worn with a fluid, pleated skirt and a thin gray cardigan. These scorched earth colors dominated the show, but never oppressively so, thanks to copious amounts of sparkle, whether woven into the fabric of a cream-colored, 30s-inspired ensemble involving a just-beyond the-joint skirt and sleeves or a brocade jumper worn atop a short-sleeved button-down—very Sound of Music. Equally luminous was a high-gloss dress with a turtleneck encircled by a floppy, extravagant, oversized bow.|page| In fact, given the slightly crumpled, high-crowned fedoras and paired with luminous fabrics, it was almost like the Great Depression turned into a musical.
