10 Winning Oscars Beauty Looks

by Kristen Heinzinger

Celebrities stunned in couture gowns at last night’s Academy Awards, which were elevated by flawless skin, gorgeous hair, and a medley of bold lips, brows, and eyes, all thanks due to an army of A-List beauty teams. Here, the top 10 beauty looks that graced the red carpets of the awards show and after parties.

EMILY RATAJKOWSKI

To highlight the sexy sweetheart neckline and deep-scoop back of Emily Ratajkowski’s Steven Khalil dress she wore to the Vanity Fair after party, Moroccanoil’s Christian Wood let the actress’ half-up half-down look loose for undone waves, a strong center part, and a “rock & roll vibe.” Hero products: Moroccanoil Treatment, Beach Wave Mousse, Dry Texture Spray, Luminous Hairspray, Glimmer Shine

ROONEY MARA

Fierce, modern, and beautiful—Rooney Mara nailed her red carpet look at this year’s Oscars. Cassondra Kaeding, colorist at Sally Hershberger’s L.A. salon, deepened the color of the actress’ hair, which Adir Abergel pulled back tightly into a sleek, architectural, knotted updo that took the parting trend to another level. The mod hair style was rounded out with a classic bold red lip, strong brows, and a parfait smoky eye by Chanel’s Kate Lee. Hero products: Chanel Aqua Crayon Lip Colour Stick in Cinnamon, Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Sensuelle

CHRISSY TEIGEN

Chrissy Teigen put a twist on the classic braid, wearing an intricate woven pony, an undone yet elegant look that meshed perfectly with her glamorous Marchesa gown. LORAC Cosmetics’ Mary Phillips didn’t want makeup to compete with the burgundy gown, and created a neutral palette with golden undertones. Brows were a focal point here, and she kept the lips nude with a tint of rose brown. Hero products: TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Mousse, Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer, Beauty-Full Volume Hairspray, LORAC brow pencil, LORAC Pro Matte Color, LORAC Unzipped Palette.

It seemed as if the Brooklyn star literally glowed on the red carpet, which was exactly what Chanel celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh was aiming for. She used eyeshadow along the lashline and on the lid, then added deep purple liner for dimension. Hairstylist Adir Abergel let Ronan’s hair air-dry and teased for volume. Hero products: Illusion D’Ombre Longwear Luminous Eyeshadow in Moonlight Pink, Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Purple Choc, John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray

KERRY WASHINGTON

To keep with the edginess of Kerry Washington’s black and white leather dress, hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew added extensions and teased at the roots for volume, then gathered curled strands into a mid pony, held together with a leather Versace band. In terms of makeup, Carola Gonzalez gave Washington a nude lip (a new direction for the typically bold pouted actress) and inky eyes. Hero product: ghd curve Soft Curl Iron

CHARLIZE THERON

There’s rarely, if ever, a red carpet where Charlize Theron disappoints on the beauty front, and this Oscars was no different. The blonde tucked her locks into a low chignon, and kept makeup simple, too: A soft smoky eye and a nearly nude lip created with Dior Makeup was the perfect complement to her stunning Dior gown. Hero products: Dior 5 Couleur Eyeshadow Palette, Diorshow Mascara, Diorshow All-In-Brow 3D Palette, Addict Milky Tint Lip Fluid in Milky Plum

Jessica Alba showcased products from her own line, Honest Beauty, on the red carpet. For a flawless complexion, she used a combination of almond, camel, and java foundation creams and illuminating powder. She nailed the smoky eye, enhanced with purple liner, and topped off the look with a sheer wine-color on the lips. Hero products: Honest Everything Cream FoundaJon, Luminizing Powder, Truly Velved Eyeliner, Truly Kissable Lip Crayon

LADY GAGA

GettyImages-513010584Officially the new queen of retro-glam, Lady Gaga stunned in a pin-curled blonde bob at the Oscars. “Since this is her first nomination for an Oscar, we wanted to create a hair look that was both timeless and glamorous,” said Frederic Aspiras for Pai-Shau. “I created a sculptured but voluminous look that contoured her face and flattered her dress. I wanted a lot of shine and bounce.” A marsala-colored, sparkly and smoky eye and lengthened lashes locked down the look. Hero products: Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion, Royal Abundance Mousse, Style Souffle, Imperial Hold Hairspray

PRIYANKA CHOPRA

To complement her sheer mesh strapless gown, Priyanka Chopra wore her hair pulled back in a low, sleek pony, secured by an elastic which was wrapped up and hidden by a section of her hair. A strong lip and brows elevated the elegance of this look. Hero products: S Factor by TIGI Body Booster Plumping Spray, Silky Smooth Moisture Serum, Smoothing Lusterizer, Creamy Molding Wax, Vivacious Hairspray, Flat Iron Shine Spray
