Atelier Versace Couture Spring 2015

by Alexandra Ilyashov

Donatella Versace‘s latest Couture collection was all undulating curves, all the time, from the opening flared pantsuit numbers to the intricately beaded, red carpet-ready parade of red, white, blue, and noir gowns that closed the show. After the impressive turnout of Versace gowns at the Golden Globes (including a hit white number on Kate Hudson, who was at yesterday’s show avec mom Goldie Hawn) expect to see some of these Couture numbers at the Grammys, Oscars, et al. Leave it to  Versace to introduce all sorts of new ways to do a cutout, whether in the form of lightning-like swirls on bead-bedecked nude and silver frocks or, in the case of the white jumpsuit donned by Karlie Kloss in look 44, a criss-crossed detail on the right breast that was just barely concealed things. Saucy, non? A spate of seven noir numbers with beautifully-wrought detailing (fishnet-like paneling; fringed bits aplenty) were trotted out midway through the show, including some shorter-hemmed numbers that would easily work on the cocktail bash circuit. Rounded asymmetrical hems on royal blue and red numbers felt fresh and modern, and highlighted monochromatic, curvaceously strapped shoes, though a couple styles sported wide belts and voluminous skirting that just didn’t quite deliver on the same level as those slimmer, sexier pieces. But as for the snug, curve-flaunting, cleanly cut majority of the collection, expect to see these looks on many a tapis rouge soon…
