Giambattista Valli - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) Is it couture? Is it ready-to-wear? Non...it's just Valli, playing with volume and proportion in his most inspired collection yet. There were fifties frocks, with nipped waists and petticoats galore, as well as lace sheaths and soft-shouldered day dresses. Obscenely pleated skirts were tempered with dainty floral appliqués and ribbon belts, but things really got grand when the gowns began their parade. Ruffled skirts that eclipse Oscar in volume weren't even remotely grounded--instead, Valli added more of the same up top. While they were statement-making indeed, with clothes so accomplished, who really needs dessert?
