(PARIS) Is it couture? Is it ready-to-wear? Non...it's just Valli, playing with volume and proportion in his most inspired collection yet. There were fifties frocks, with nipped waists and petticoats galore, as well as lace sheaths and soft-shouldered day dresses. Obscenely pleated skirts were tempered with dainty floral appliqu├ęs and ribbon belts, but things really got grand when the gowns began their parade. Ruffled skirts that eclipse Oscar in volume weren't even remotely grounded--instead, Valli added more of the same up top. While they were statement-making indeed, with clothes so accomplished, who really needs dessert?
