Emanuel Ungaro - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) Designer Esteban Cortazar's second collection for Emanuel Ungaro was extremely sassy, at the cost of sophistication. It was the young designer's second collection for the house, and the wacky prints, off-the-shoulder tunics, and aggressive minis hinted at a past that wasn't Ungaro's own. The opening one-shouldered, ruffled black party dress was vintage Ungaro, and completely spot-on, as was a black-and-white printed mini shown with a scoop-neck top. But the fringed blue Ugly Betty-esque poncho managed to blanket these accomplishments. A turquoise cocktail dress with a dramatic bow on one shoulder deserves some play on the red carpet, and if Cortazar manages to dream up some more modern clothes, his own turn in the spotlight will soon follow.
