Dries Van Noten - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) The theme could have been "I want that...and that...and that," as Dries Van Noten unveiled a glorious collection of ready-to-wears. The show took place in the Galerie d'Orleans of the Palais Royale, home of the Pol Bury fountains that resemble a smattering of large silver beads. That motif was reflected in Van Noten's brass necklaces--the first of many thoughtful and perceptive gestures that related the clothes to the environment we live in today. Long, easy jackets, checked swing coats, and most memorably, a series of silk ombre pieces endowed with a graphic, barely-perceptible cube print had even the nonbelievers dreaming of delivery dates. Waiters greeted exiting guests with trays of tea and macarons--could it be any more obvious that this is a designer who aims to please? The Van Noten genius lies in his way of doing it without even trying.
