Maison Martin Margiela - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) When bodies are rolled down the runway on elevated gurneys, this is not merely a show. But fashion expects nothing less than a spectacle from Martin Margiela--especially this season, as he celebrated his twentieth anniversary on the heels of rumors that the flagship designer is retiring from his house. Models were sent down the runway with nylons over their heads, and handlers stationed themselves at the end of the runway to grab them before they walked directly into the pit of photographers. "There weren't really any clothes!" said one astonished editor. Not quite-Margiela's team, who all took a finale bow, offered up a smattering of pieces, including a quite commercial white jacket and a long black dress with only one sleeve. But the scene, as always, stole the show.
