Nina Ricci - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) Olivier Theyskens is an idea man, and this season's collection for Nina Ricci expressed one thought most persistently. For spring, the house contributed a certain silhouette, in which hemlines are very short in front before descending into a long, loose train. Engaging at first--but 30-odd looks later, the repetition felt brow-beating. Nobody can coax fabric to move with as much grace as Theyskens can, and these vaguely 18th-century silhouettes in tea-stained hues and watercolor prints were certainly romantic enough to charm those editors.
