Runway Reviews: Christian Dior
(PARIS) Sounds of thunder and whinnying horses preceded John Galliano's show, themed "the seduction of the libertine." And what a romp it was, full of equestrian fare done with plenty of fantasy and romance both à l'anglaise et à la française. The festivities began with a ruffled chocolate leather cape, followed by pleated caramel leather pants, a coterie of ruffled chiffon dresses, mongolian lamb bags, and enough nipped-waist jackets to make the spirit of Christian tremble with joy. Hardware-encrusted heels and boots added to the spectacle, as did riding pants with leather patches and enough of those trademark beaded gowns and frocks to give the Marisa Berensons of the world cause for joy. Jackets in cranberry plaid are just as delectable as a long nude jersey gown with eyelet detail, worn with an oversized overcoat. But it was the final series of transparent gowns, worn with full-coverage briefs, that got the crowd really riled.
