Balmain - Paris Fall 2008
(PARIS) Roll Call: Gilles Bensimon, Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Cathy Horyn, Stefano Tonchi, Thom Browne, Virginia Smith, Sally Singer, Nina Garcia, Kate Lanphear, Hilary Alexander, Victoire de Castellane
Chic Report: Christophe Decarnin's fall collection for Balmain was a punky, seedy-chic explosion befitting the rock-and-roll scrawniness of Irina L., Lizzie Jagger, and the sisters Richards. The color palette--black, white, red, and silver--was appropriately sinister, and the looks were equally tough: there were liquid-metallic tanks, black leather pants, python-print jeans, sharp-shouldered, embellished black jackets, sequined lightening bolt flourishes, and a parade of itty-bitty, one-shouldered mini-dresses. "You had it all: mesh, plaid, leather, animal prints," said Priya Tanna, editor-in-chief of Vogue India. "But when an empowered women wears these clothes, they look strong and sexy at the same time."
