Givenchy - Paris Haute Couture Fall 2009
(PARIS) Riccardo Tisci often indulges a mixed bag of influences while insisting on giving everything his signature dash of flash. This collection catered to those in hot pursuit of alternatives. Why do a tuxedo pant when a drop-crotch trouser is more dramatic? The hardware--angsty rings on every finger, aggressively laced-up boots--are Tisci's way of talking back to those who insist that this market is all about the pretty. The brand is becoming more global by the minute, and the clothes nodded to that wide range of clients with keffiyeh motifs and hooded blousons. A smattering of mostly-nude evening dresses were studded with jet beads and resin-like cones instead of iridescent paillettes. Several bustier-centric gowns kept the sexiness in check. In the already intimate world of haute couture, a thoughtful and curious perspective like Tisci's is one of the season's highlights.
