Rodarte - New York Spring 2010
(NEW YORK) What do Kate and Laura Mulleavy do after the greatest acknowledgment of their still young careers this past June? They burn their collection. "Laura and I built this collection around the idea of a girl that spontaneously combusts and turns into a vulture," explained Kate. "This was a transformation and we burned a lot of the collection, while the L.A. fires were happening at the same time." The result was a spectacular and the original display completing with fog, sky-high Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, and sandpaper. Spring in Rodarte's world consisted of blood reds, edgy browns, and shiny blacks. The duo utilized everything from signature lattice-work fabric to glass to reconstructed leather to produce a collection that perhaps is their most accomplished yet.
