Vera Wang - New York Spring 2010
(NEW YORK) In her liner notes, Vera Wang named Poiret as a spring inspiration--though the collection was classic Vera. Textures took center stage, and she played with a sporty theme in the form of "basketball tees" (scoopneck tanks shapes like a classic jersey) and tomboyish bermuda-length shorts. Wang's genius is in keeping her embellishments--ruffled silk tulle, oversized crystal necklaces, sequins and beads--tempered with dark colors and slightly masculine shapes. Ivory and black mongolia fur vests were unexpected standouts; while not particularly springy, they were a perfect styling extra sure to sell. For evening, a charcoal pleated tulle maxi dress is the perfect anti-girly girl gown; with a high neck and no discernable waist, the dress was a stunner without being a touch saccharine.
