Tadashi Shoji - New York Spring 2010
(NEW YORK) According to Tadashi Shoji, “the strength of women” was the platform for his spring collection. Marching the runway in draped and tucked crepe one-shouldered minis, hammered champagne silks and silk georgette dresses, and tops with exaggerated blouson sleeves, his models were just that: strong. A color scheme of navys, blacks, champagnes and ivories was inspired by Cambodia’s natural landscape and his deep blue “illusion” series, which included shimmering beading with a sheer overlay, called to mind a pure midnight sky. Skilled construction was seen in the tightly woven jersey that covered crepe dresses, and shredded hand-cut silk organza on a voluminous frock and elegant gown proved to be playful options for cocktail or black-tie.
