Thakoon - New York Spring 2010
(NEW YORK) Designer Thakoon Panichgul has been getting plenty of attention recently between his star turn in The September Issue and the continued support by high-profile client Michelle Obama, and with his spring collection he showed why his show is still a must-see for nearly every EIC. Though his warrior inspiration meant the looks were a bit less feminine then usual, his evolution was interesting: the intricately pleated and draped looks from fall reappeared wrapped around more structured, corset-like bases. "Armor" dresses were sheaths with the outline on the front of, well, armor, and though they were a bit conceptual, a black version embellished with thin silver chains was impressive. As always, Thakoon's bright prints will likely be translated into sales; a "bleeding floral" ribbed silk blouson dress is a wearable, chic example.
