Marc Jacobs - New York Spring 2009
(NEW YORK) Fashion’s leading nostalgist raided the Vuitton steamer trunks of some impossibly chic Connecticut WASP just back from her Grand Tour. Think classic Americana (Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” played for the show’s entirety), with nods to Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” swinging Peking and the Via Venetto. Thankfully, the piper of gai Paris had 53 looks to play with. High-waisted apron skirts were a bustle away from suffragette; wide-leg cropped trousers, motorcycle jackets, and sundresses, accessorized to the hilt. Flattened boater hats, espadrilles, plaid sashes, quilted bags, chunky necklaces: Our eyes were working overtime just to take it all in. As is custom, the celebrity wattage was blinding: Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Richie, Kanye West, and Helena Christensen, fellow travelers, all.
