Jonathan Saunders - New York Spring 2009
(NEW YORK) Jonathan Saunders’ Sunday night shows are almost always serene. Nearly every top editor and buyer is usually present, and yet there is a strange calmness in room full of dozens of the industry’s most powerful. There’s a reason for that, of course: the talented Brit rarely disappoints, and his garments are so well executed and so originally conceived that it is hard to hiss or point imaginary flaws. The spring collection looked nothing like the fall, and oohs and ahhs were let out as the crop of huge models like Suvi, Sasha, and Magdalena paraded around the giant gallery space wearing everything from technicolor print dresses to lively skirts and kimono-inspired jackets. The palette was intelligent, the patterns seemed fresh, tailoring was impeccable, and Saunders succeeded once again, leaving his audience with very little to argue about.
