(NEW YORK) “We call the collection Urban Tropical,” said Elie Tahari at the presentation of his Spring 2009 collection on Thursday. “It’s about paradise, flowing clothes, fluid clothes, lots of prints, lots of color.” Indeed, the collection, styled by ELLE creative director Joe Zee and shown in the Four Seasons Restaurant's Pool Room, looked almost like a resort collection, with long, flowing printed gowns, blazers over swimsuits, and lots of white. Of course, the atmosphere, complete with palm trees and a glass-covered pool runway, didn’t hurt. Prints came in both animal styles, like leopard and zebra, and more abstract florals. Pants cinched at the ankle were a modern take on the harem-pant trend, and the now-ubiquitous jumpsuit was updated in a zebra print. “I think it’s the essence of what Elie and Rory do for Tahari,” Zee said. “It’s really about great, real, accessible clothes. It’s about luxury, it’s bohemian, it’s about sexiness--it’s what they do, and they do it so well.”
