Verrier - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2008
Verrier Spring 2008
(NEW YORK) A relatively new kid on the block, Ashleigh Verrier’s feminine, well-executed clothes and luminous beginnings (her entire Parsons thesis collection was bought by Saks Fifth Avenue), she is certainly one to watch. Her spring collection was a mix of the usual polished but girly dresses and skirts with grown-up coats, draped shirts, and skirts in luxurious fabrics that might seem too mature for Verrier’s peers. Verrier displayed her proper but girlish sensibility and tried to be taken more seriously by infusing her work with a maturity of execution and a rich palette of browns, nudes, and blues. The details were very right now-scalloped skirts, dot print see-through tops, an orange coat over a mustard taffeta full skirt. A very high-waist taffeta blue skirt on Iekeline with a cropped ruffled blue top was a standout, as was the black brocade dress over a blue slip. Verrier knows how to dress a girl for night, especially if it involves a more formal affair. The designer showed a wide range of dresses that transition beautifully from day to evening, from ballerina-like layers of white tulle with crystal embroidery, to a majestic delicate scooped-neck deep blue chiffon number.
