Z Zegna - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2008
Z Zegna Spring 2008(NEW YORK) Zegna showed a collection inspired by an urban dandy, a stylish young man braving a landscape much like New York's. Designed for city survival, the collection aimed to contrast compositions and proportions, voluminous shapes expressed in the loosely fitted silhouettes with precise tailoring and couture details. Compared to previous collections, which were more classic, Zegna is now more focused on establishing itself as a brand name in sportswear in addition to exquisite suits, and the modern fabrics and hand-made touches in this collection embellish the sportier looks with a luxurious edge. “It's all about the modern explorer surviving in the city landscape,” designer Alessandro Sartori said. “This young man has specific needs: protection, freshness, and gimmicks." For spring, slim jackets in a super lightweight paper thatch cotton are paired with shorts-Roman sandals, desert masks, and canvas backpacks complete the look. The double-breasted shawl cardigan and the silk jacquard fabrics in grey and blue stripes, exposed thermoplated seams, lazer cut raw edges, and crisp cotton chintz contribute to the explorer theme. The silhouettes are elongated, with super-elegant pieces thrown into the mix: a whole series of evening-inspired outfits including capes and pajama shirting, and double-faced linen four button jackets worn with tuxedo pants.
