(NEW YORK) Lam's Spring 2008 collection was inspired by Guy Bourdin's photography, but the designer softened Bourdin's bold sexuality while keeping the '70s mood in mind. These influences were overshadowed by Lam's more practical aims-"I was just looking to create very soft, easy shapes that women want to wear when it's hot out," Lam said. The first look of the show really captured the vibe of the collection-a short grey spot-print georgette dress with gathered waist and bell sleeves. There were exquisite sleeve details and other retro-looking outfits, like a green embroidered silk blouse and skirt and a python sequined skirt that had a stained glass motif. His more tailored pieces were equally beautiful, with flared sleeves and pants in Roman stitch jersey, gold buttons, and a black short-sleeve sateen jacket with belted wide zebra shorts. The georgette pieces in particular had a wonderful fluidity and sensuality.
