(NEW YORK) Peter Som was all about the metallics and thin belts over polished coats and skirts. He melded Frank Gehry's Bilbao Guggenheim with '30s varsity school girl chic. "Youthful dorkiness with crisp, modern clothes," is how the designer put it. The silver lamé flower print dresses and lustruous fabrics, the oversized necklaces, and the pink and grey contrasts mirrored Gehry's ultra-modern style. Som said that this season he was concerned with mixing texture and showing defined, crisp silhouettes-cinched waists and tailored sportswear. There were lots of tafetta and silk fitted skirts, button-up shirts with polka dots, and shift dresses under belted jackets. Som showed a very grown-up collection lightened up with a few girly, amusing touches, leaving us in much anticipation of what he'll produce for Bill Blass next season.
