(NEW YORK) The debut effort from Alexa Adams and Flora Gill, who met at Parsons and then worked together for Karl Lagerfeld, was a chic mixture of polished suit pieces and art brut details. Adams said the collection was “a combo of really elegant pleating with more raw elements inspired by French painter Jean Dubuffet.” Raffia belts and bracelets, feather neckpieces, and geometric prints inspired by totem poles and tribal art were very original elements that the two designers matched with wide-leg pants, delicate jersey tops, and skinny suits, without spoiling the overall soft tone of the collection. The cream and grey palette, refined silks, and fluid silhouettes came from the duo’s infatuation with ‘80s work suits and Japanese fabrics. “We wanted to do a whole kind of summer texture so we used terry cloth sections against silk and custom embroidery that was from a Japanese perspective," said Adams. It all made for a very promising and grown-up debut.
