(NEW YORK) In the past, designer Andreas Melbostad has done pretty and colorful, but this collection was entirely grey and black with an obvious punk influence-the designer referenced The Clash as an inspiration. It was all about playing with volumes and exaggerated proportions, as he layered vests, bombers, and skinny pants tucked into studded biker boots. Zippers and studs were everywhere, from chained shoulder bags to zipped long vests and skirts in black ombré. The designer said he aimed to mix urban and contemporary, rebellious and sophisticated. But while some of the grey and black suit pieces and shirts were androgynous yet elegant enough for a mainstream customer, others were too edgy or disproportionate. Perhaps softening or varying his silhouettes would help Melbostad showcase the versatility and range he has displayed in the past.
