Erdem Fall 2015

by Paige Reddinger

The rich fabrics in Erdem Moralioglu‘s collections are always to die for, and this season he gave them a bit of an undone touch. The lavish fabrics that opened the show on a few cocktail dresses looked a bit like discarded pieces of interior fabrics, patched together. Tweed skirt suits were frayed at the hems, and though we’ve seen that before, here Erdem added his own touch by sewing a lace swath of fabric to the hem of a skirt; one skirt suit even came in leopard. Moralioglu uses lace masterfully, and the dresses in this show were stunning examples of that expertise like a cherry red, cobalt blue, and black long sleeved pencil dress with a high slit. He took the lace motif a bit further by working lace designs into leather on a black peplum skirt suit and a bright purple dress. Fil coupe pieces (another Moralioglu specialty) were adorned with ostrich feather plumes, while ruffled dresses, like a stunning navy blue number on Madison Stubbington, are surely pieces a smartly feminine Erdem girl would dream of.
