Guy Laroche Spring 2015

For paired down elegance, look no further than the latest from Guy Laroche. Here, Marcel Marongiu focused on neutral coloring and fuss-free silhouettes. Of course, a little inspiration goes a long way and Marongiu received his in the form of Claire McCardell. The mid-20th century designer of luxury sportswear was most esteemed for her poplin dress, and today her penchant for simplicity was reflected in a superior collection. Navy, black, white, grey and nude were energized with vivacious yellows and moody maroons. A navy strappy A-line dress was given a sexy V-neck and fabricated in an equally sexy material: leather. Even a prim and proper black shirtdress was buttoned to the top but revealed plenty of skin with delicate cutouts at the side. However, luminosity was not lost on this collection. The strappy Bain de Soleil dresses at the end were embroidered in illustrious plexiglass pieces, such as with the black and white getup that moved and shifted with its wearer. Despite the possibly stiff nature of these materials, each piece had incredible fluidity. After all, who could refuse a slinky plexiglass dress?
