Vionnet Spring 2015

Walking into the Vionnet show last night at the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimonie was like walking into a sauna. One sweater-clad guest exclaimed, “I’m going to smell like a wet dog! I’m not even wearing a t-shirt underneath this!” On the other side of the room one front-row guest, who didn’t seem to mind the temp, was busy having her photo snapped with her baby, who was wearing a tiny gold crown. It was quite a scene. But while it was hot, the clothes at least were very haute.

If Greek mythology’s Artemis the huntress were a real woman living in the 21st century she would likely be dressed entirely in Goga Ashkenazi‘s Spring 2015 collection for Vionnet. Out marched an airy parade  of bright whites and luxe nudes was equal parts ethereal and crisp, and completely lustworthy. There were the signature Madame Vionnet elements like plissé and draping and there was dose of sex appeal in looks where gartered stockings and body suits were revealed either in full or beneath full-length skirts. Giant oval belts that cinched the waists of nearly every look and oversized futuristic tribal looking jewelry were worn like armor. Plus, backpacks that strapped across the chest and gladiator sneakers signaled that Goga’s girl was ready to take on the world. A stunning floor-length white cape dress was absolutely regal. As the models filed down the runway at the show’s close,  Björk’s song “Hunter” played. Fierce.
