Dolce & Gabbana - Milan Spring 2009
(MILAN) With a stocked front row and every editor that matters, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana sent out an obscenely joyous collection that even more minimalist types couldn't help but applaud (those who managed to tear themselves away from ogling Jennifer Lopez, that is). Natasha Poly began things on a sleepy note in the first of many pajama looks. They were mensweary, but not manly, especially when paired with an outrageous rose-strewn tulle ball skirt (again, on Natasha) in the last look. In Dolce & Gabbana's world, intimates are the glammest of all, especially when paired with sparkling wedges--not heels, mind you, platform only. Skirts and dresses had extra volume around the hips, yet another trend coming out of Milan that appears to have staying power. Shoulders, too, were exaggerated, especially in a fuchsia and silver brocade jacket worn by Karlie Kloss. The parade of gowns that always closes the show is as anticipated a Milan ritual as a meal at Da Giacomo, and these silvery gowns--so large that only one model could grace the runway at a time--rose to the occasion.
