(MILAN) Whoever said the Roman Empire fell? The spirit was alive and well at Alberta Ferretti, but these clothes were far from your average draped gown. After a strong Philosophy showing in New York, Ferretti confirmed her commitment to inventive eveningwear with some wildly fun frocks and gowns that put less gutsy designers to shame. A stunning red satin carcoat was so slouchy, so... luxe, that wearing it would feel as indulgent as an entire bottle of Krug. Chiffon dresses kinked up with laser cut-out motifs had plenty of sass, but the most breathtaking fare came courtesy of multi-tiered fringe. Two nude gowns stood out, both with gemstone-embellished breastplate detail. In terms of black dresses, the long transparent cap-sleeved wrap style was hardly little. The sublime creativity and inspired take on classic forms and motifs make Alberta Ferretti one of the week's bona-fide highlights. An example of such invention was the hosiery. Sheer and lightly colored in neon shades of blue, yellow and pink, they only showed their true colors when they slouched down to create pseudo-wrinkles. Now this is Italian fashion at its best!
