Dolce & Gabbana - Milan Fashion Week Spring 2008
(MILAN) The Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2008 collection was a tribute to contemporary art and experimentation. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana got hold of an imaginary key to Gramercy Park, the source of this season’s inspiration and an intersection of cultural influences. The commitment to artistic creation came across quite literally in hand painted silk shantung. Delicate and geometric shapes were rich in texture and material, creating an overall sense of sweet feminine romance. Looks were a sharp departure from the designer’s harsher sexier aesthetic. Voluminous brocade dresses paid homage to Renaissance classics. Hems were unfinished to exude the feel of a work in progress. Rose McGowan, Naomi Campbell, and Caterina Murino, artists and canvases in their own right, all sat front row clad in the designers’ wares.
