Milan Fall 2013: Alberta Ferretti

by The Daily Front Row

(MILAN) Alberta Ferretti
Although Alberta Ferretti’s collection wasn’t as overtly Russia-inspired as some other designer ethos this season, there were indeed sophisticatedly subtle hints of the ancienne far east locale. Take, for example, an azure blue silk wool military style jacket with hints of velvet on the collar and red piping, paired with a matching floor-length skirt, or a long navy plaid dress coat, festooned with embroidered roses trailing down the middle. Also, a few long sleeved floor-length, white empire waist chiffon dresses certainly seemed fit for a czarina. On the accouterment front, iron cross earrings adorned each model, but the overall feel remained overtly feminine. To wit: A sheer lace-accented white top with a ruffled collar got paired with a short sequined skater-esque skirt. And a short chiffon frock in a shade of lime green, ruched, nipped at  the waist, and flora-embroidered on the shoulders. Sumptuous aubergine velvets cut into column gowns and skirts suits added a sensual touch. The show’s stunner? A shadowy black gown of lace and silk, pleated diagonally, thus hugging the waist and falling gracefully in ruffled tiers. Any lasses who’ve been lukewarm at best on the parade of menswear inspired-clothing for Fall, get ready to lust after this elegant collection. Bellissima!
