Milan Fall 2011: Prada
(MILAN) Prada
For those of you who thought the fur and stripes and monkeys couldn't be beat: sorry. Miuccia Prada's breathtaking Fall collection proved, yet again, that her only competition is herself. The concept? Organics. Massive pailettes resembled scales. Faux fur collars (or real ones, whatever) crawled out from underneath dresses. Ultra-luxe, almost lifelike lizard was used generously in swingy overcoats and skintight boots. Trompe l'oeil suede shoe-boots resembled both a prim red pump and eerily loose skin holding it up. Snug caps, fastened with a chinstrap, were made of fur or clunky pailettes to resemble hair. Frame bags were tightly clutched, weapon-like, to undermine the relative innocence of 40s-era red, white, and black drop-waisted shirtdresses with pleated skirts. A palette of nude, peach, mustard, puce, and plum added to the general eeriness. On a day where the major news is coming from Tripoli, is it a stretch to suspect that conflict and strife are on Prada's miracle-working mind?
