Runway Review: D&G
As video footage of chalets and ski slopes loomed in the background, the D&G show launched models onto a wood-plank runway framed with logs. OK, OK--only ski-bunnies need apply. And who does a snowflake sweater better than this? Whether a straightforward hip-length style in black or burgundy, a bodysuit, or even a neck-to-ankles onesie, the theme was, well, crystal. A series of lily-print chiffon pieces lightened things up and provided hors-slope options, such as a burgundy tie-neck dress with long, flowing sleeves. Crystal-studded goggles and helmets--safety first!--were just as fabulous as the tout-fur boots, which surely cost at least a fox apiece. But all in all, a very strong collection as memorable as the Fall 2006 spectacle, which was also wintry-themed. That one featured softly-falling flakes. But this one proved that D&G is at its best when the direction is hyper-focused. Whether in Gstaad, Grenoble, or Great Neck, the customer will be more than satisfied.
