Etro - Milan Fall 2007
(NEW YORK) Deco geometrics dotted this collection for a cheeky dose of futurism without a second, ponderous thought to just where it is we’re headed. And good thing, too—these clothes were made for the art teacher whose class you can’t wait for all day, not the heavy handed pedant that sucks all this life out of the material. Etro’s color sense was spot on as usual, ranging from grey, green-y turquoise, and burnt sienna to charcoal-violet, olive, and burgundy; the effect was retro without referencing any particular period. High-waisted pants and knee-length skirts flowed sinuously before nipping back in ever so slightly at the hem. Quirky accoutrements, like suspenders on printed evening gowns and chunky, glossy belts—not to mention a button-down blouse, all-over spotted like disco lights—looked grown-up while still making our hearts flutter like teenagers’.
