Dior Resort 2016

By choosing show Dior’s Resort collection at Le Palais Bulles, Raf Simons gave the fash pack something to talk about off the bat. The futuristic estate in the South of France was created for Pierre Cardin in 1989 by architect Antti Lovag; the iconic terracotta castle is artfully interspersed with plexiglass bubbles. That was a fitting backdrop for this widely varied collection, including a lineup of separates that strictly adhered to the Dior codes, alongside modern confections of wild prints and varied textures.

While simple ribbed knits were updated with woven and frayed hem detailing, a metallic brocade reminiscent of mermaids and the seashore adorned smock-like frocks. Also a reminder of the nearby Bay of Cannes: net detailing, which was layered over solid dresses that finished off with a colorfully pleated touch. As for the accessories? Kitten heel boots sported pointy toes and button details, and there were also sumptuous satchels on offer, like a luxe bucket bag with croc skin and a chain handle. For traditionalists, the Bar Jacket popped up in a checkered pattern, paired with coordinating pants plus a simple pair of flip flops. Which just goes to prove Simons point du saison: You can take Dior to the beach, but at the end of the day, the maison won’t stray terribly far from its refined roots.

Oooh! The Dior Resort looked AHmazing! Absolutely so lucky if you were able to go! I felt like I was backstage with all the models through snapchat! Snapchat showed backstage footage of the designer and models prepping for their big debut. Especially a show in France, how could anyone resist?! I thought the backdrop for the show was so interesting, yet anything is possible, as designers want something new, bold even, to showcase their pieces.
